Commission your guitar

We don't mass produce instruments at du Pré Guitars. Each guitar is a one-off, built to order to the exact specification of our customers. The guitars featured on this site are just examples of recent work and in no way represent the limit of what is available. If you can dream it, we can make it. Almost anything is possible within the boundaries of good taste and your imagination.

We believe that your guitar should be exactly as you want it, with the features and components you require. We want you to be activley involved in the design and specification of your guitar, and understand exactly what you're getting. We believe this should be a consultative process and we are happy to help guide you in the right direction and make suggestions based on what you tell us about tell us about your style and the sounds and feel you are after.

Prices

There are no prices on this website. We would rather find out what you are after then give you an indicative price. We can then go ahead and draw up a detailed spec for your commission and then provide you with an accurate quote. Our aim is to give you a top-spec, one-off, hand built instrument to your specifications for the same sort of money as you might expect to pay for a USA made standard Strat®.

The process

  1. Get in touch by using the form on this page, or the contact us page
  2. Give us a rough idea of what you want and we'll give you a rough idea of what the price might be.
  3. Work with us either by email, phone, or face to face over a pint to work out your exact spec.
  4. We'll work out an exact quote.
  5. You give us the nod to get started and half the money upfront as a non-returnable deposit. We need to ask for this because your tailored spec is unlikely to the same as the next customer's and we need some commitment before we start getting pickups wound, ordering parts and cutting wood.
  6. We build your guitar. This normally takes a couple of months. We'll keep you posted with regular updates on our progress.
  7. Once we've finished we'll ask for the outstanding balance and on receipt we'll deliver your instrument.
  8. You enjoy your guitar for a lifetime.

What you get included

* We insist on this if you need your guitar delivered by courier. In our experience, no amount of "do not crush" or "fragile" stickers on a package prevent it from being treated pretty roughly. If you live in or around London we may be able to deliver personally, in which case we can omit the hard case if you decide you don't need it.

** Delivery to and collection from our workshop will be at your expense.
